Noncommutativity vs. Transversality in Qed in a Strong Magnetic Field *

چکیده

Quantum electrodynamics (QED) in a strong constant magnetic field is investigated from the viewpoint of its connection with noncommutative QED. It turns out that within the lowest Landau level (LLL) approximation the 1-loop contribution of fermions provides an effective action with the noncommutative U(1)NC gauge symmetry. As a result, the Ward-Takahashi identities connected with the initial U(1) gauge symmetry are broken down in the LLL approximation. On the other hand, it is shown that the sum over the infinite number of the higher Landau levels (HLL’s) is relevant despite the fact that each contribution of the HLL is suppressed. Owing to this nondecoupling phenomenon the transversality is restored in the whole effective action. The kinematic region where the LLL contribution is dominant is also discussed.

Superluminal Noncommutative Photons

With the help of the Seiberg-Witten map, one can obtain an effective action of a deformed QED from a noncommutative QED. Starting from the deformed QED, we investigate the propagation of photons in the background of electromagnetic field, up to the leading order of the noncommutativity parameter. In our setting (both the electric and magnetic fields are parallel to the coordinate axis x and the...

Noncommutative QED and γγ scattering

We study γγ scattering in noncommutative QED (NCQED) where the gauge field has Yang-Mills type coupling, giving new contributions to the scattering process and making it possible for it to occur at tree level. The process takes place at one loop level in the Standard Model (SM) and could be an important signal for physics beyond SM. But it is found that the Standard Model contribution far excee...

Coordinate Noncommutativity in Strong Non-Uniform Magnetic Fields

Noncommutativity of space coordinates has been much studied from various points of view [1-3]. It arises naturally in string theory, where it is related to the presence of strong backgrounds fields. If these are constant, one obtains the more familiar case where the coordinate noncommutativity [x, x ] is a constant antisymmetric quantity. However, if the background fields depend on the spatial ...

Noncommutativity and the lightfront

We discuss various limits which transform configuration space into phase space, with emphasis on those related to lightfront field theory, and show that they are unified by spectral flow. Examples include quantising in ‘almost lightfront’ coordinates and the appearance of lightlike noncommutativity from a strong background laser field. We compare this with the limit of a strong magnetic field, ...

Axial anomaly of QED in a strong magnetic field and noncommutative anomaly

The Adler-Bell-Jackiw (ABJ) anomaly of a 3 + 1 dimensional QED is calculated in the presence of a strong magnetic field. It is shown that in the regime with the lowest Landau level (LLL) dominance a dimensional reduction from D = 4 to D = 2 dimensions occurs in the longitudinal sector of the low energy effective field theory. In the chiral limit, the resulting anomaly is therefore comparable wi...
